H1N1: A love story.

in For Serious, may or may not be a medical emergency, Watch me Procreate

Ok, so here is the deal.

I seldom get all mommy up in here.

This is my place.  For my life stories.

Sometimes the stories are about me being a parent, mostly they are about me being an asshole.

In fact, not a week ago, I would have written some scathing post about that ballsack of a father that creepy, Village of the Damned balloon kid has.

Or about my dad’s recent decision to conduct his daily business in denim overalls.

Or even about this old boyfriend I had that I caught in bed with a stripper named Shauna, whose entire upper lip is now just one giant, oozey herpe sore, and I am pretty sure his dick fell off.

But today, I can’t.

I’m gonna take a moment, as a mommy, to tell you…the last thing you should have to do, as a mommy, is to sit with your sick kid in a quarantined hospital room, with needles coming out of his arms.  And, the only contact he has outside of his mommy is with people in scary masks and full body rubber suits, who treat him like he has the plague.

And, there are all these other kids, just like him.  Equally sick.  Equally miserable.  Totally fucking freaking out.

And to think.  If the vaccine would have been available sooner, this all could have been prevented.

hospital

Get yours.

Oh NO!!! How terrible for you. I hope he is on the mend. I spent 4 miserable days in the hospital a couple of years ago with my then 5 yr old who had meningitis. Just terrible to think of. Great big huge hugs to you…

Thank you for this. I hope that some of the people who are on the fence about the vaccine will read this and change their minds. All the best to you.

EXACTLY. My son got this because some selfish cunt face sent her kid to school sick…and THEN, had the nerve to pick her up wearing a surgical mask. So, like, thank God YOU won’t get sick, only the rest of us. Whore bag. I should bill her for my co-pay.

I am pretty sure I would of had to brawl.

Yikes! While I am not a fan of the shot and will not be getting it for myself or my children (no one get all up in my grill, everyone gets to decide this for themselves and this is just my decision, I respect those who decide to vaccinate for this!)- I do think that bitch should have been at home while she was sick, not out around a bunch of kids! What a dipshit. When you are sick, you keep your germy ass at home. It’s really not that complex, lady!

(BTW, hi! Been reading a while but this is my first comment!)

Aw crap. That sucks. I fear fear fear the swine flu and I’m frustrated that even being in a high risk group, having a 2 year old, and having an immunosuppressed dad, I’ve yet to find someone to give me a vaccine. And if one more asshole tells me that it’s a shot made out of HIV and animal cancer cells I’ll put them in a choke hold. It’s a flu shot, fool.

Reply

David October 21, 2009 at 3:45 pm

That’s about as simple as the case has to be. I’m sorry you’re going through all this, and I hope the little one is doing better. VACCINATE, gang. As soon as it’s available, vaccinate. The whole family. Get the seasonal flu AND H1N1 shots/sprays. Nobody should have to endure the pain and horrible discomfort of a sickness, especially when it can be prevented.

Hugs-

When he is better and home, I have an idea: all us parents will hold the arms of the jackasses who keep telling us how dangerous this flu is but seem to be dragging their heels getting the damn vaccine out if you promise to beat the crap out of them… you in?

i’m very sorry that your son is sick, but it’s probably a good thing he didn’t get the H1N1 vaccine since it would’ve weakened his immune system and given him less of an opportunity to fight off the real thing. It hasnt been properly tested and has been rushed out to market, it’s also full of known toxins.

Hope he gets better soon

Reply

Kit October 28, 2009 at 2:35 pm

I’m sorry but, the arguments about “it hasn’t been tested” aren’t totally accurate. Different varieties of flu vaccine are never subject to long-term testing because they just plug the strain into the same formula they’ve always used. It’s like making the same model of car but with a different color. The only reason this has turned into a debate is because of stupid media hype.
“Toxins,” I love it when people say that. Can you be more specific please? Plants are also full of “toxins,” what matters is what amount and whether they really do anything to your body.

California doesn’t allow vaccines with more than 1mcg thirmosol … this vaccine has 25 mcg … make your own decisions, we all have to do what we feel is best, however, after doing extensive research I won’t be advocating it, getting it or taking anyone to get it. I just suggest people research and make their own decision, as I did.

Oh, Brittany. How awful. Sending good healthy thoughts your way, hope y’all are out of there & your baby is totally recovered soon.

I am *terrified* of H1N1 because my 2 year-old has asthma and she’s been known to end up in the hospital over a damn cold. I cannot imagine what this flu would be like for her. We were lucky, she was able to get the vaccine because she’s high-risk (although it took about 15 phone calls to get it). Still, they have to split the dose in half for little kids so she won’t be fully protected until she gets the booster in a month. I’m considering either keeping her in a plastic bubble until then, or maybe just dipping her in a pool of Purell several times a day.

Hey, I’m so sorry that your baby got sick. As for getting the H1N1 vaccine, I’m 100% in agreement. Its not always that easy though. I work in a pharmacy that will be doing an H1N1 clinic and we will have VERY limited supplies. And I believe there will be very strict guidelines that we’ll have to follow. Doctors offices are in the same boat. Any child under the age of 4, or with health issues (such as asthma) will most likely be able to get it first. Call your childs PCP, or your local Walgreens (thats the pharmacy I work for) Over 2,500 walgreens locations will be getting the vaccine. I’ve been told by my sons PCP that its going to be about 4 weeks before he’ll be able to get his shot. Because he isnt high risk and he is almost 9. Just hope he doesnt get sick in the meantime.

Hope the little one gets better super soon, and I hope the rest of you stay healthy.

Looooong time lurker, first time poster. First, I have to say you are hilarious and I adore your blog. Okay, that being said, I HAD to respond to this because I think parents who refuse to vaccinate should be sent to live on a commune with their kids and all the other ones who don’t get vaccinated and see how long they last. The ONLY reason these kids are safe is because responsible parents vaccinated THEIR children. Anyone remember polio? Smallpox ring a bell? How about tuberculosis? Yeah, that’s because those wacky doctors, scientists, and medical researchers who spend their lives studying this shit have saved our asses with vaccines. But hey, why believe them? They are obviously either corrupted by the government who wants to implant microchips into our bodies to control our minds or the old aliens-disguised-as-humans trick and THEY want to implant microchips into our bodies to control our minds. It’s always the damn government or fucking aliens. I hope your son feels better soon. Sorry for the rant.

“… I think parents who refuse to vaccinate should be sent to live on a commune with their kids and all the other ones who don’t get vaccinated and see how long they last.”

lol ;) . that made me giggle.

ohh my. the heated vax discussion. *facepalm* it’ll never die.

i have many friends who choose not to vaccinate, and i’m fine with that. their children really aren’t sick any more than the vaxed kids. similarly, i know a handful of people (young kids and adults) who have been diagnosed with h1n1 this flu season, and a few of them had the h1n1 vax in the first place. in my opinion, it’s hit or miss.

while i’m not a fan of vaccinating on the schedule that most pediatricians and hospitals shove down our throats as parents, i do agree that some vaccinations are necessary. however, i don’t think it’s necessary to flood a newborn baby’s or an infant’s body with multiple vaccinations. there are several alternative vaccination schedules that i think are wonderful. i really have issues with the schedule that the CDC recommends, though.

that being said, it’s definitely a personal decision and i don’t think any parent should be persecuted or berated for doing what they believe is best, whether they are pro-vax or anti-vax, based on the research they’ve conducted. i did a research paper on this issue for a class last semester, and i discovered that there really are compelling studies on both sides of the issue. it’s a tough decision.

i do think, however, that the mom who sent her daughter to school sick and then picked her up wearing a surgical mask is kind of a… *consults creative cursing book* twat muffin.

I feel for you! I have just spent a week in hospital with my two year old daughter. Though it was not H1N1 it was just as bad, the Norwalk Virus. A highly contagious gastro virus. We too had the needles poking out her arm, scary masks, gloves, weird outfits and isolation rooms. It was always a screaming match to for anyone other than me to get near her. My other children could not come to visit and I swear they thought I was never coming home :(

I hope your little boy is feeling better soon…… xx Naomi

I know it has just come available at our health department. I HATE the thought of going to the nasty ass health department. I have to call the pediatrician office to see if they will be getting it in.

They say they are targeting specific groups but will not turn you away and it is free. But the thought of being around all the sickies at the health department makes me nauseous! can’t they just have like a drive up window where we pull up throw our arms out the window and they stab us and I drive away germ free??

My son can’t get the mist so it’s a shot for us. We all got our seasonal flu shots a few weeks ago.

Not available here, except for high risk (under 3 years, pregnant women, etc.) I don’t know what’s up with that – we’re in a major metro area.

Your experience reminds me of when kids used to get polio – the parents couldn’t even be in the room with them – imagine! Thank goodness you could hold your little one.
