California doesn't allow vaccines with more than 1mcg thirmosol ... this vaccine has 25 mcg ... make your own decisions, we all have to do what we feel is best, however, after doing extensive research I won't be advocating it, getting it or taking anyone to get it. I just suggest people research and make their own decision, as I did.

I'm so sorry for your little guy and hope all is better now.

Sitting in Texas with a high risk, asthma child who has been in the hospital countless times for respiratory problems, yet THERE ARE NO SHOTS HERE. In fact, our dumb state doesn't even have any seasonal flu shots for pediatrics. They've got mist, but no injections. The at-risk kids can't take the mist.

Mad and crossing my fingers,

first i want to say that my heart goes out to you, miss barefoot foodie, and your family. i hope the little man is feeling better :(. *hugs*

"... I think parents who refuse to vaccinate should be sent to live on a commune with their kids and all the other ones who don’t get vaccinated and see how long they last."

lol ;). that made me giggle.

ohh my. the heated vax discussion. *facepalm* it'll never die.

i have many friends who choose not to vaccinate, and i'm fine with that. their children really aren't sick any more than the vaxed kids. similarly, i know a handful of people (young kids and adults) who have been diagnosed with h1n1 this flu season, and a few of them had the h1n1 vax in the first place. in my opinion, it's hit or miss.

while i'm not a fan of vaccinating on the schedule that most pediatricians and hospitals shove down our throats as parents, i do agree that some vaccinations are necessary. however, i don't think it's necessary to flood a newborn baby's or an infant's body with multiple vaccinations. there are several alternative vaccination schedules that i think are wonderful. i really have issues with the schedule that the CDC recommends, though.

that being said, it's definitely a personal decision and i don't think any parent should be persecuted or berated for doing what they believe is best, whether they are pro-vax or anti-vax, based on the research they've conducted. i did a research paper on this issue for a class last semester, and i discovered that there really are compelling studies on both sides of the issue. it's a tough decision.

i do think, however, that the mom who sent her daughter to school sick and then picked her up wearing a surgical mask is kind of a... *consults creative cursing book* twat muffin.

excuse me for using a made up word. people got the point and I was a bit stirred up. I can't say your response was really any more respectable. we can agree to disagree on the weakened immune system. it's not a rumor I've picked up on the internet, it's something I've been told by more than one medical professional. I'm sure the opinions on this vary as greatly as opinions on vaccinations themselves.

and I never said there was mercury or aluminum in every vaccine. I apologize for not clarifying but I was more referring to vaccines in general as so many had already done in previous comments. and whether aluminum is a HEAVY metal or not, I still don't want it in our bodies. not through vaccines and not through any of the other items you mentioned. I am an informed consumer thank you very much.

I still stand by my decision not to get either flu vaccine and choose to fight the viruses off naturally. so just like I can respect your choice to vaccinate I ask that you respect mine rather than cutting me down and assuming I'm some uneducated idiot looking to infect the rest of the world with my diseased family.

I'm sorry but, the arguments about "it hasn't been tested" aren't totally accurate. Different varieties of flu vaccine are never subject to long-term testing because they just plug the strain into the same formula they've always used. It's like making the same model of car but with a different color. The only reason this has turned into a debate is because of stupid media hype.
"Toxins," I love it when people say that. Can you be more specific please? Plants are also full of "toxins," what matters is what amount and whether they really do anything to your body.

sorry... I could have sworn I wrote another reply, but I don't see it, so I wanted to say that I AM SO SORRY you are going through this and I hope for a speedy recovery for your little one! Poor him... and you. There is NOTHING worse than seeing your child sick in the hospital. My oldest son had a bad case of pneumonia last year and was in the children's hospital for 2 weeks. He needed surgery to drain fluid from his lung, as he was not getting better. He had a chest tube in him for 4 days, and was on a morphine drip (OMG) along with all the other meds going through his body. I never questioned anything the doctors did. I was freaked, but they are the EXPERTS and then knew how to make him better. He was on an oxygen mask. It was a nightmare, to say the least. And so this is the number 1 reason I know I have to give my boys this H1N1 vaccine. Even though here in Canada we don't a thimerosal free choice. Ours contains thimerosal, and also, they're all the adjuvant ones. Apprently they are safe. So I have to start trusting and just get it done. This flu has hit our city HARD core, and 2 very young people - 13 and 11 years old - have died within days of eachother after only 2 days of symptoms. SCARY and HORRIFIC. So yes, I'm getting my boys vaccinated. There is more to worry about if they are not vaccinated, right? Brittany, I hope you all get to go home soon. It sucks to see your child sick in the hospital and even to see other sick children. Take care, all of you... HUGS xoxoxo AND thank you for this post. Made me teary and all. And I am glad you wrote it.

And to Lotte? Whoa... have you read anything at all, ever? You're wrong. Thanks Chris, for you your reply to her. I shake my head at people who are STRONGLY against the vaccine. Sure, it is normal to have questions... I sure do... especially b/c in Canada we only have the thimerosal and adjuvant vaccine available to children. They say it is safe, though... so? I have to trust my doctors and Health Canada. 2 young children have died within days of eachother here. Had symptoms of this flu and 1 and 2 days later, they died. HOLY SHIT I'm scared, you know?
